A Fusion of Japanese Pop Art, Indigenous-Inspired Symbolism, and Devy Mortals' Visual Language. The Polka Dot Collection by Devy Mortals was born from my fascination with the artistic worlds of Yayoi Kusama and Takashi Murakami. Their ability to transform repetition, color, dimension, and imagination into immersive visual experiences inspired me to explore how their artistic philosophies could merge with my own creative identity.For some time, I have been developing this collection, experimenting with ways to infuse their influences with my personal style, incorporating Indigenous-inspired symbolism, bold colors, and imaginative figures that exist between reality and fantasy.The Power of the Polka DotTo me, polka dots are more than simple patterns. They are a way of bringing life into empty spaces.A blank area of a painting can become an opportunity for movement, rhythm, and discovery. By layering dots of different sizes, colors, and dimensions, I create visual energy that draws the eye across the artwork. Some dots serve as accents, while others become central elements that transform the entire composition.My goal is to create paintings that feel alive—where color interacts with color, shapes overlap, and every space has the potential to become something unexpected.Japanese Folklore & Floating FiguresAnother important inspiration behind this collection is Japanese folklore and its imaginative relationship with spirits, mythical beings, and ornamented figures.I envision these figures floating throughout my paintings, almost as if they exist in their own universe. They become characters within the artwork, interacting with the polka dots, colors, and layered dimensions around them.Through this approach, I want to create a sense of movement and wonder—an experience where the viewer can discover something new each time they look at the painting.Beyond SuperflatWhile the collection draws inspiration from the superflat aesthetic associated with Takashi Murakami, I want to explore how flat imagery can be expanded through texture, layering, color, and dimensional elements.My work is not about replicating another artist's style.
